About NedConnect
NedConnect was founded to help people build real, everyday confidence in Dutch – by actually speaking from day one.
Lessons are entirely online, so learning happens from wherever you are, at a pace and style that fits you. The focus is on speaking, listening, and the kind of communication that actually matters once you step outside the classroom – whether that’s at work, with neighbors, or just ordering a coffee.
About the founder
Lucas Elting
Ever since I was first exposed to multilingual environments as a teenager, I’ve had a profound passion for languages. During COVID, I started learning Spanish and French by myself through the internet. After obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Utrecht, I spent some time traveling and becoming fluent in those languages, as well as obtaining considerable knowledge of Arabic and Portuguese. To build on that distinct passion for and understanding of languages, and to learn what the most effective learning and teaching strategies are, I obtained a Master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Granada in Spain.
Since then, I’ve taught many hours of Dutch lessons to students of different backgrounds and nationalities, ranging from professionals settling in the Netherlands to people with Dutch familial ties. All that experience has truly taught me that languages are the key to connecting to other cultures. By sharing my experience and expertise with you, I will help you to bridge that language barrier, by being able to connect with the Dutch in their own mother tongue.
The philosophy
How language learning is approached at NedConnect – and how that shapes every lesson.
Speaking-first, not speaking-only
Every student builds all four skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing, grammar included. Conversation just gets the most attention by default, since it’s usually what people need most day to day.
Relevance over rote learning
The vocabulary and situations taught are the ones that actually matter to your life – your work, your neighborhood, your daily routine – not a generic textbook script.
Structure with room to breathe
Regular, structured repetition keeps vocabulary and grammar stable in your memory, while lessons stay flexible enough to follow what you’re curious about.
Shaped by what you need
Some students want to focus more on writing, or reading, or exam prep – the balance of the lessons adjusts to match, rather than sticking rigidly to a speaking-only script.
Grounded in Communicative Language Teaching
NedConnect’s method is based on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), a widely-used approach that treats real communication as the main goal of learning a language. Grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing are all still explicitly taught – CLT just means they’re taught in service of actually communicating, rather than as isolated drills disconnected from real use.
