Frequently asked questions
How does the free consultation work?
The consultation happens online and takes about 15 minutes. It serves to understand your current level, goals and schedule, as well as for deciding what course best suits your situation. It is free of charge and without obligation.
What levels do you teach?
From absolute beginner (A0) to advanced (C1) – every student is placed at the right starting point, and complete beginners are very welcome.
What ages do you teach?
All ages. There is ample experience teaching children, students, and adults alike – lessons are adapted in pace, style, and materials to suit the age and goals of each individual student.
What happens during class?
Most of the lesson is spent speaking – real conversations built around situations you’ll actually use Dutch in. There’s also time for explaining grammar, which is then woven into the conversation practice and homework that follows. Other activities include describing pictures, playing games, speaking assignments and presentations, and more. Reading and writing get attention too. Lessons are flexible, and the balance shifts to match your specific goals.
Is homework provided?
Yes. Homework is tailored to the content of your class. It focuses on practicing the vocabulary and grammatical structures used in class, and there is regular repetition of material from previous classes as well. Before the start of the next class, the teacher will provide feedback on your answers.
How long does it take to learn Dutch?
With weekly courses, most students can realistically reach an upper beginner level at around 2–3 months, and an intermediate level around 5–6 months. However, this is dependent on other factors, such as motivation, overall exposure to Dutch, and prior experience with closely related languages such as German.
How long are the classes?
Private and Duo packages include 4 classes of 1.5 hours per month. Intensive packages include 8 classes of 1 hour per month instead, for more frequent, shorter sessions.
Do I need any materials?
The only things you need are a computer/laptop, a stable internet connection, and the willingness to learn and have fun. Digital materials and homework are provided.
Is Dutch spoken during classes?
Yes, from lesson one. The pace is adjusted to your level, but the main focus is always on getting you to converse in Dutch.
How are payments scheduled?
Payments are typically monthly, in advance, based on the package you choose. See the Courses page for current pricing.
What is the cancellation policy?
Lessons canceled with at least 24 hours’ notice can be rescheduled at no cost. See the Terms & Conditions for full details.
Are purchases refundable?
Monthly packages aren’t refundable once they’re already paid for, but customer satisfaction and conflict resolution is important. See the Terms & Conditions.
Do you only teach English-speakers?
No – students from every native-language background are welcome. The language of instruction is mainly Dutch, since that’s what you’re there to practice, but explanations and translation are available in English, Spanish, or French, depending on what works best for you.
How soon can I start?
Usually classes can start within a week of the consultation call.
